Pursuit Of Happiness
by Jeff Chalmers on Jun.02, 2010, under 2010

Who hasn’t played Trivial Pursuit? Right. Not many.
I remember how proud I was one steamy summer night in June of 1984 in a rent controlled building on Riverside Drive in New York City, to boast to my American friends that game we were so engaged in, was invented by Canadians.
So, when I received an invitation in September of ‘93 to attend an anniversary bash at Alice Fazooli’s in Toronto celebrating the wildly popular board game, I had to go. All four partners were going to be there; co-inventors Scott Abbott and Chris Haney, along with partners Ed Werner (corporate lawyer) and & John Haney (Chris’ brother).
The craziest of the bunch…Chris Haney. He had a big smile on his face and was having a wonderful time. I thanked him for all the hours of enjoyment and passed him a pen to sign the game board I’d managed to snag from a nearby table. Then the other three signed it.
Chris passed away Monday at age 59.
Keep on smiling, Chris.
